Czech Republic

When the first missionaries arrived in the Czech Republic only a decade ago, they found a country full of people who had no knowledge of Christianity. They lived “having no hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12). It is exciting to witness God’s work in converting so many Czech people through the churches and the ToF-funded Martin Luther School, which provides over 200 Czech children with a Christian education.

In addition to the congregations, our successes include:

  • Continued outreach through St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plzen.
  • Continued proclamation of the Gospel in Horni Briza, a town of 6,000 inhabitants with no church.
  • Worship service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plzen.

Education is very important in the Czech Republic. The literacy rate is 97%. It was decided soon after mission work began that a good way to reach people with the Gospel would be through a Christian Day School. In the fall of 1992 the school opened its doors to students from Kindergarten through grade nine. Classes were held in a rented facility in Skvrnany. The enrollment was 37. In the fall of 1995 Martin Luther School moved to the newly renovated building at Skolni namesti 1. The purchase and renovation of this building have allowed the school to grow.

“Much of our work centers around the children who attend our Christian Day School. God has richly blessed our work with these children, and many of them openly witness to their faith in the Savior. And, yet, for them, there is a real challenge in living in very close-knit – and yet non-Christian families. Very few of our children have a believing mother, father or grandparent to encourage them in their faith, or to bring them to church. Most of the time, their families show complete disinterest, and sometimes are downright hostile toward the faith of these lambs in Jesus’ flock. We ask you to join us in praying for these young Christians. Pray that they remain faithful to the Lord.”
